FAQs

What preparation is required for this test?

Prior to the test, the lab recommends:

  • 4 Days Before Collection

    • Stop all non-essential medications, vitamin and mineral supplements, and nutrient-fortified foods and beverages unless otherwise instructed by your healthcare provider

    • Avoid artificial sweeteners (e.g., aspartame, sucralose, stevia), MSG, and alcoholic beverages

    • Continue essential medications (such as thyroid and hormone medications) unless told otherwise by your doctor

  • 24 Hours Before Collection

    • Eat your usual diet, but avoid over-consuming any single food or following an extreme diet

    • Limit fluid intake to no more than six to eight 8-ounce glasses (about 1.5–2 liters) over 24 hours

    • Avoid seafood

This test involves both urinary and blood samples. How do I arrange for blood collection?

While the urinary sample can easily be provided at home, you will need to arrange to have the blood sample collected at either your local doctor surgery or arrange for a private collection (eg. Superdrug).

How to return the sample?

After collection, freeze urine samples for at least 2 hours before your blood draw. Keep them frozen until ready to ship. Some blood vials should be refrigerated and some should be frozen (instructions included, together with container and shipping label).
